Silo Sections
Overview
Silo Sections
Silo sections are designed for silo ring beams – the transition between the silo wall and discharge hopper. When used for this critical structural element, the inclined surface of the silo tube section follows the hopper angle whereas the other three surfaces remain horizontal or vertical. This allows for easy joining of the silo wall to the hopper plate via the silo tube section.
Apart from being used as a ring beam, silo sections can also be used as an economical alternative for silo support legs. Though designed for silos and bins, silo sections can also be used in various other applications which can exploit its different cross-section.
Typical Uses
- Easy joining of the silo wall to the hopper plate
- An economical alternative for silo support legs
Relevant Standards
- AS/NZS 1163: 2016 – Structural steel hollow sections
