Mental health first aid training at Sydney Steel Mill

Last week, Sydney Steel Mill hosted Mental Health First Aid training over the course of two days with Geoff Bowser for our recycling and corporate teams.

The training focused on skills to support mental health and wellbeing at work as well as at home and in the community.

The Standard Mental Health First Aid course teaches participants how to provide initial support to another adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.

Meet the blokes who set out six years ago to break the stigma around mental health.

Tasked with the challenge to tackle this problem head on for InfraBuild’s Recycling team, Mike Petrov and Rod Langford, Safety and Environment Manager, set out in 2018 to coordinate an initiative that would build our team’s capabilities in responding to mental health issues in the workplace, which is where they were first introduced to Mental Health First Aid® Australia.

InfraBuild is fortunate to receive professional support and advice from Geoff Bowser, Clinical Psychologist and Accredited Mental Health First Aid (MHFATM) Instructor, who has now developed a deep understanding of our business.
