It’s National Recycling Week

11 November 2024

Hi everyone,

The second week of November marks the start of National Recycling Week and for us at InfraBuild, recycling is very important.

The theme of this year’s National Recycling Week is ‘join the cycle’ which is something that really resonates with me because steel is a product that can be recycled, turned into new steel products and in the future, those steel products can be recycled and made into new steel.

For us at InfraBuild, recycling is core to our business. We are as Australia’s second largest metals recycler, and we take old steel to make into new steel in our electric arc furnaces.

This approach also forms part of our product innovation. We have launched SENSE 600® which is our new range of reinforcing bar.

SENSE 600© is manufactured from 100% scrap metal and is made with 16.7% less raw materials compared to our standard Grade 500N reinforcing bar.

This goes to us playing our part in ensuring the ongoing cycle of steel being used and reused – rather than ending up in landfill.

Recycling week is a good reminder for us to turn our attention to see if there are any old metal objects stored away at home or in the shed we just don’t use anymore.

With 26 recycling sites we can take metal for recycling, so have a look this week and encourage your family and friends to do the same – we’d love to take your ferrous and non-ferrous metal.

Throughout this week we will be showcasing a whole lot of interesting stories and videos on why recycling metals is important to InfraBuild, as well as the wide and varied things we have recycled – such as trains and planes!

Below is a video from my recent visit to our Hexham recycling site, it was great to catch up with the team there:

Make sure you join the cycle this National Recycling Week and encourage your family and friends to as well.

Keep recycling and stay safe
