Australian-made steel helps our economy when times are tough by job creation, employing over 100,000 Australians
Steel is the backbone of Australia’s construction, infrastructure and manufacturing industries. It has shaped our nation in the form of bridges, motorways and stadiums. We’re surrounded by it – it’s where we live, work, and play.
When times were tough, steel helped our economy by creating jobs. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the steel industry employs more than 110,000 Australians. In the current economic climate, now more than ever, it’s important to support local businesses by purchasing Australian made steel.
Buying InfraBuild steel gives you peace of mind, knowing where your product comes from and that local Australian resources have been used in its production. With two steel producers, over 300 steel distribution outlets and many fabrication, manufacturing and engineering companies around the country, the Australian steel industry generates $29 billion in annual revenue and is an essential part of the Australian economy.
When you buy Australian made steel, every dollar you spend is a dollar invested back into our communities to support local families and businesses. Investing money in local communities means we can safeguard our children’s future by continuing to create and manufacture products in Australia.
InfraBuild manufactures quality Australian steel products. Our integrated supply chain is backed by world-leading technical expertise.
InfraBuild has supplied steel for many successful projects. Every project is an example of the benefits of using our product. Following are just a few key projects that use our steel.
In Melbourne, the iconic ‘Starburst’ structure, built on top of Australia’s tallest building, Australia 108, was constructed using InfraBuild steel. InfraBuild Steel Centre secured the majority of the steel contract, including all steel on the permanent structure.
The Optus Stadium in Perth was awarded the Most Beautiful Sports Facility in the world in the 2019 Prix Versailles international architecture awards. InfraBuild supplied 16,000 tonnes of structural steel for this project.
Brisbane’s 300 George Street is a 41-storey building, originally designed as a concrete structure. Constraints in Brisbane’s concrete construction supply chain forced primary contractor Multiplex to consider changing the building’s frame to steel. Most of the steel used in 300 George Street was manufactured in Australia and supplied locally by InfraBuild Steel Centre Coopers Plain.
While in Parramatta NSW, in order to meet Obayashi Corporation’s (BOJV) commitment to 5-Star Green Star Building on the Parramatta Square Tower project, Australian structural steel was used. InfraBuild supplied around 2,000 tonnes of hot rolled and welded sections, from InfraBuild in Scoresby Victoria to GFC Industries in Campbell Victoria.
A safe pair of hands
Using Australian made steel doesn’t just create jobs and boost the local economy, it makes sense. Buying locally manufactured products gives you the confidence that the product has been made to the highest Australian standards.
Concerns over non-compliant imported steel products – including defects relating to substandard welding and corrosion protection – underline why it makes sense to place your faith in a trusted supplier of Australian-made steel.
InfraBuild is perfectly placed to partner with the construction industry as a provider of locally made product. Our company stands behind its promise of quality assurance and offers readily available stock and short lead times.
Local steel producers adhere to government guidelines in relation to occupational health and safety and ensure safe working conditions. Workers receive a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work – in a safe, secure and sustainable environment.
