InfraBuild has taken delivery of 44 thousand tonnes of billet signifying the strength of its international supply chain.
Port stevedore crews are working around the clock for 12 days to unload the massive shipment at Newcastle.
The company has previously sourced up to 30 percent of its billet requirements from Whyalla but has been de risking its reliance on the South Australian business given operational disruptions in the last 12 months.
The nation’s only operating Electric Arc Furnace’s at Rooty Hill and Laverton also produce billet which feed InfraBuild’s rolling mills.
The billet delivered to Newcastle will be used at the Newcastle Rod Mill and Wire plant to manufacture a range of high-quality products including those used in large-scale nation building infrastructure and commercial residential construction.
