InfraBuild Leading the Way on Traceability

InfraBuild is striving to lead the way on traceability, as the first distribution business in Australia to secure accreditation under the Australian Steel Institute’s standard.

With the ASI, Steel Compliance Australia has awarded InfraBuild Steel Centre Dandenong the accreditation under AS/NZS 5131.

The Australian Steel Institute amended the current standard to include traceability measures in the current ‘open borders’ environment to address concerns about where steel has come from and whether it was processed correctly.

An increasing number of public organisation as well as Governments are looking at or require certification under the standard.

InfraBuild CEO Francisco Irazusta said the standard potentially saves customers substantial resources and time in checking product compliance.

“InfraBuild Steel Centre Dandenong instituted a quality management system with 17 steps to achieve accreditation under the standard and provide assurance of the quality of our products in a market which is demanding integrity,” Francisco said.

“InfraBuild is striving to be an industry leader not just on traceability, but also on sustainability as the only long fully vertically integrated electric arc furnace based steel manufacturer in Australia and with an ambition to be carbon neutral by 2030.

“Right now we are producing our SENSE 600 range of steel which provides our customers with up to 39 per cent reduction in embodied carbon compared to our standard 500N grade reinforcing steel.”

InfraBuild is working to have all distribution hubs accredited under the standard in the short term in a continuation of its support for downstream businesses and fabricators.
