Local groups benefit from InfraBuild’s Community Connections Program

The Koori Mail’s flood rebuild efforts have been helped by a generous donation from the InfraBuild Steel Centre in Lismore as part of its Community Connections program.

The Koori Mail plays an important role as the information hub for the local indigenous and non-indigenous communities and this role was amplified during the Northern Rivers flooding events as the Mail was on the frontline, keeping locals updated.

Unfortunately, the Koori Mail was not spared the devastation after its building and infrastructure were destroyed by the floods.

But thanks to a resilient spirit and the help of supporters like InfraBuild, the Mail is fighting on and continuing to deliver on its mission to bridge the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous communities.

The other charity to benefit from the Community Connections Program was the Winsome and Lismore Soup Kitchen, which assists the homeless and disadvantaged by providing hot lunches, as well as transitional housing for marginalised men.

InfraBuild’s Lige Donald said the Community Connections Program was an opportunity for the company to give back to the more than 100 communities it operates in across Australia.

“This program is all about us supporting groups in the community who are making a difference in people’s lives,” Lige said.

“And the Koori Mail and the Winsome and Lismore Soup Kitchen are shining examples of the difference we can all make in the community if people work together and get the support they need.

“Our people are all members of these communities and we are incredibly proud to be able to show our support with these donations to help these groups continue to do great work in our communities.”

“The Koori Mail is very appreciative of the kind donation we have received. The Koori Mail building and facilities were decimated in the 2022 Floods, we are very much in a rebuilding phase and will be for some time. This generous donation will go towards building repairs, office furniture, staff amenities as well as anything that will enhance our community business in Lismore and keep the lines of communication open with all of our people. We look forward to a long lasting relationship with InfraBuild Steel Centre Lismore in the future” said Naomi.

“The Lismore Soup Kitchen is extremely grateful for the kind donation that InfraBuild Steel Centre at Lismore has donated to us. Our building was wiped out in the 2022 Lismore Floods and as a voluntary organisation it has been a mighty effort to get back to where we are today, we have so many things on the to do list and this donation will go towards kitchen facility upgrades as well as help in the way of products and services to contribute towards refuge and meals for our clients” said Elkie Bell.
