InfraBuild Manufacturing’s scholarship program is building a sustainable future for our workforce by supporting the next generation of engineers to enter the steel industry.
With 100 years of continuous operation, InfraBuild is working closely with universities to increase awareness of the steel industry – sharing our extensive knowledge and experience with the next generation of young professionals by attending university careers days, facilitating lectures on steel making and hosting site tours at our steel mills.
Our scholarship program, which builds on a long-standing relationship with Swinburne University, now includes close connections with University of NSW, University of Western Sydney and University of Newcastle.
The scholarship program creates entry-level opportunities for talented new starters. Every year, InfraBuild offers a number of scholarships – typically three each at our Laverton Steel Mill, Sydney Steel Mill and Newcastle – where we offer two at the Rod Mill and one at Austube Mills. The scholarships are open to second year engineering students with each successful student receiving financial support throughout the year.
Additionally, each summer break the students are offered 12 weeks paid vacation work during which they are assigned a mentor and a task or project to complete. At the end of their placement, students present the outcomes of their work and key learnings to InfraBuild leaders and university representatives.
InfraBuild CEO and Managing Director, Vik Bansal, said the program was discovering and developing new talent while creating learning opportunities for the workforce.
“Our people are very passionate about what they do and it’s terrific that they can share some of their talents, knowledge and expertise” said Vik Bansal, CEO and Managing Director.
“Not only is this program developing leadership and mentoring capabilities in our people, but it also offers a clear pathway to rewarding careers in the industry.”
We currently have 21 scholarship students across the business. Over the years, seven students have moved into InfraBuild Manufacturing’s graduate program, taking up opportunities in a diverse range of roles in IT, processing, mechanical and electrical engineering.
