Sanjeev Gupta
Executive Chairman, GFG Alliance
Sanjeev Gupta is the Executive Chairman of GFG Alliance, which encompasses a range of global businesses owned by his family. Born into a family of industrialists in Punjab, India, Sanjeev was educated in the UK and graduated with an MA in Economics and Management from the University of Cambridge. He founded Liberty House Group in 1992, while still an undergraduate, as a global commodities trader, growing rapidly across different geographies for over two decades.
In 2015 Sanjeev started his industrial journey buying and restarting his first steel mill in the UK. Since then he has built an international reputation as an ambitious and visionary industrialist acquiring and building major assets in metals, engineering, mining, and renewable energy spread across the world. Sanjeev lives with his wife, Nicola, and their three young children in London.
Francisco Irazusta
CEO & Executive Director
Francisco Irazusta joined InfraBuild in October 2023 as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director, and is a member of the Board.
Francisco has more than 25 years’ experience in senior leadership positions across building products, manufacturing, mining, and steel industries globally.
Prior to joining InfraBuild, Francisco was Chairman and CEO of Spanish seamless pipe manufacturer and distributor Tubos Reunidos, where he oversaw the business’s return to profit in 2022.
He previously served as Interim Chief Executive Officer of Fletcher Building; a listed building products manufacturer based in New Zealand. Prior to this he was Chief Executive of Fletcher Building’s International Businesses, and Chief Executive of Light Building Products.
Francisco has a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from Alfred University, New York, and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Ceramic Sciences and Engineering from State University of New York, at Alfred University, New York, USA.
Sandip Biswas
Executive Director
Sandip is GFG Alliance’s Chief Investment Officer and the Interim CEO for LIBERTY Primary Steel and Mining, responsible for delivering sustained commercial and investment performance, playing a key role in supporting the group’s debt restructuring and transformation plans, areas in which he has deep expertise. Sandip is responsible for leading GFG’s efforts to become carbon neutral by 2030 (CN30), applying his strong track record in developing decarbonisation projects.
He has for nearly two decades held senior and board level positions in Tata Steel’s top JVs and subsidiaries, including Group Executive Vice President, Finance, for Tata Steel Limited, where he oversaw the group’s financing strategies, including capital structure, mergers and acquisitions and capital raising activities.
In July 2019 he became Tata Steel Europe’s Executive Director, responsible for driving the company’s transformation programme and was appointed to the board. Most recently Sandip was the Chairman of Tata Steel UK.
Daksesh Patel
Non-Executive Director
Daksesh Patel (Dak) is a respected businessman, leader and entrepreneur with extensive experience in the Australian steel industry. Dak was the InfraBuild CEO from October 2019 to July 2021, and is a member of the Board.
Dak has held senior leadership roles in a privately-held family business group operating throughout the Oceania region. These businesses own and operate diversified portfolios in manufacturing, distribution and building products, including the steel industry, and collectively employ over 2,500 people.
Dak became Chairman of Energy Fiji limited in 2016, and oversaw its transition from a government owned statutory body into a newly corporatised entity in 2018. From 2019 to current, under Dak’s leadership, EFL achieved partial divestment with an aim to eventually list on the local stock exchange positioned as one of the few utilities in the region achieving a sustainable level of return on assets. Determined to drive a sustainable future, Dak is a key supporter of EFL’s commitment to the cultivation of clean, renewable sources of energy. In 2020, Dak was appointed as Chairman of the Fiji National Provident Fund, Fiji’s largest financial institution.
Dak is married with two children and loves rugby union.
Monica Middleton
Independent Non-Executive Director
Monica has over 30 years’ experience across a diverse range of blue-chip companies and SMEs, focusing on delivering impactful business, marketing communications, and sustainability strategies. After receiving an MSc in Sustainability and Social Responsibility in 2013, she has worked exclusively with organisations that pursue a blend of financial, environmental and social imperatives, with her most recent executive position being UK managing director for Dutch international impact investor, Oikocredit.
Alongside InfraBuild, Monica is currently a Non-Executive Director for LIBERTY Steel Group, Cafédirect plc; the Ethical Property Company Ltd; the Guardian Share Company Ltd, and was on the Steering Committee of UK Women in Social Finance for six years. She has also held executive roles at Dyson Electronics, BBDO and the BBC.
Michael Morley
Independent Non-Executive Director
Michael is an accomplished senior executive with a wide range of operational and strategic experience in Mining & Metals and Business Development having led operations throughout Australia, Europe and the US, and worked in Australia, the UK and Europe.
Michael served as the Senior Vice President, Metals Processing in global mining and metals company Nyrstar. Michael was with Nyrstar for a decade where he was responsible for operations employing around 3,000 people at seven sites in Europe, the US and Australia, and led the flagship project to revitalize the ageing Port Pirie lead smelter in South Australia.
Between 2017 and 2019 Michael served as GFG Alliance’s Development Director and Deputy CEO for Australia when he led the acquisition of the former Arrium/OneSteel business.
Michael is a qualified lawyer with significant corporate and M&A experience across a range of industries, both in house and in private practice. Prior to Nyrstar Michael held senior roles at Smorgon Steel Group, Clayton Utz and Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).
Michael is currently Chair of Developing East Arnhem Limited and an Independent Non-Executive Director of Energy Renaissance.
